Directly
below the terrace, lies the Momella
clearing, which can also be reached
via a boardwalk. A viewing platform
offers the opportunity to watch animals
from close by, and to enjoy classic
sundowners, with Kilimanjaro in the
background. Every day buffaloes and
waterbuck feed here. Warthogs dig
around in the ground or mow the lawn, water
birds enjoy the swampy areas and numerous
giraffes come to visit at the doors
of the lodge.
Depending on the season, elephants make
their way into the meadow, and on
moon lit nights, with a little bit
of luck, leopards, genets and civets
may be seen. In the trees around the
lodge, there are bush babies almost
365 nights of the year. A “Hippo
Pool”, a small lake inhabited
permanently by hippos, is within walking
distance. |
