Traditional tented camp in the heart of the Katavi National Park, West Tanzania

Chada Katavi is situated in the core of Katavi National Park, reputed to be one of the wildest places on earth. From its elevated vantage point on a peninsula that rises out of woodland, the camp is perfectly positioned for panoramic views over the Chada plain.

The canopy of acacias, kigelias and tamarinds are a popular source of shade and food for the abundant bird and animal species that inhabit the region, creating world-class game viewing opportunities, almost without you having to leave the camp.

The true wonder of Chada Katavi awaits when you venture out to meet the animals face to face. From Chada Katavi you can take your pick from game drives in open 4 wheel drive vehicles, walking with an armed guide, fly camping out for the night under the stars or simply enjoying soaking it all up from your tent veranda.

The camp itself is very much a traditional tented camp, refreshingly simple, comfortable and elegantly hosted. With a maximum of 12 guests in camp at any time, you are guaranteed as much privacy and isolation as you wish.

There are six double traditional safari tents with complete privacy, unrivalled views and large comfortable beds.

Private bathrooms are set at the rear of each tent and can easily be connected by a screen when required. Long drop toilets, traditional safari 'bucket showers' and washstands, with pitchers of hot and cold water set out the front of each tent, give this camp a genuine safari feel.

Food is deliciously fresh and hearty. Supper, served in the mess tent, is often frequented by a curious old elephant. Lavish picnic breakfasts, brunches and lunches laid out under shady trees may await you on your return from a morning’s game viewing.
