Accommodation

On the shores of Lake Tanganyika on a long stretch of golden sandy beach under the magnificent Mahale Mountains chain with the Nkungwe Peak as the background lies the new Nkungwe Luxury Tented Camp overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Lake, the breathtaking sunsets, the magnificent Mountains of Congo and the beautiful spectacle of a fishing fire spread across the Lake at night.

The Camp is situated between Kasiha and Sinsiba streams. We have a large reception area situated on the beach made out of local wood and thatched roof with a wooden deck raised above the ground.

The building also accommodates the mess, a library, an information center, a curio shop, a bar as well as a lounge. To the south of this building is a Banda that you are free to use at leisure. This Banda is facing the Lake, has reclining chairs and is very ideal for siestas. For the not so energetic, our beach has locally made cushioned lounge beds for you to laze on.

The kitchen and staff areas are discretely situated away from the main areas to give you privacy. A generator that is used in the evenings and is located in a position so as not to spoil the ambience supplies our power. The power is supplied from sunset to 11:00 PM

Every evening, guests sit beside a campfire on the beach for sundowner and snacks. Local villagers are often invited to entertain the guests with interesting stories and folk tales.

Basic First Aid Kit is available at the camp. The Camp is operational from May to February. It is closed during the months of March and April when the rains are very heavy.

The tents are made of heavy-duty canvas material with ample space to relax and walk around in. The tents are well ventilated with zip down gauze windows and roll up flap doors facing the Lake and raised on wooden platforms to enhance the view. The décor has been specifically chosen to give you the African Safari experience. Most of the items used are locally produced. Each unit contains two single wooden beds with firm mattresses; these beds can be used as twin or double. Other furnishings in the unit include a writing desk and chair, bedside table and lamp and clothes rack. To the rear of each unit are en suite hot water shower and flush toilet. The deck has two comfortable reclining chairs and a small table, which enables you to have a perfect view of the Lake and the sunsets. The units are adequately spaced apart to ensure your privacy.

Meals at the camp are a sumptuous affair. Breakfasts are American style with emphasis on tropical fruits and juices. Lunches are usually light. Evening meals are five course.
